Incentive Travel - International - 5 Emerging Incentive Destinations - Incentive Magazine
While many of the top incentive destinations for 2012 were tried-and-true locales such as Florida and the Caribbean, there was also growing interest in a number of more off-the-beaten-path places. Their common threads? Rich, complex cultural histories and strong traditions, and a range of activities and attractions for incentive groups, especially those that have already been to traditionally popular incentive destinations. Many of these emerging incentive destinations, while popular with leisure travelers, are just now beginning to attract the interest of incentive groups. The more unexpected the destination, the better.
"Why are people doing incentive travel in the first place? It's to drive behavior and increase sales," says Kurt Paben, senior vice president, business loyalty, Aimia. "We look for destinations that have the ability to be highly motivational in nature so organizations can achieve the objective that they've set up and once they get there, they have a truly memorable experience." Incentive spoke to several influential incentive travel executives for their opinions on what the top five emerging incentive destinations are for 2012.

Anyone 21 or older can legally posses Drugs in Colorado and Washington
Marijuana Tourism got two thumbs up in the U.S. elections earlier this month as the states of Washington and Colorado made selling, buying and using cannabis legal. Never mind the federal law prohibits any of that; the voters have spoken and opened the door for what could be promoted as Weed Weekends, Bong Backpacking and a variety of marijuana-related tourism options.State government leaders were quick to put the brakes on a massive migration to either state, saying a lot of details still have to be worked out. With Chef Govind Armstrong (Spago, Wolfgang Puck Hollywood) running the show, that's certainly one reason to venture out to an unfamiliar part of the city. But there's more: "We're taking an approach that focuses on delivering fresh, well prepared food," says restaurateur Brad Johnson. How fresh is fresh? Try a garden on the premises. For brunch, there is much to be desired: Oro Blanco grapefruit brulée, deviled eggs with smoked catfish, smoked-salmon hash with poached eggs and even a shaved short-rib grilled cheese with red onion marmalade. Enjoy.

Competitiveness: 1,000s of jobs in Euro Zone likely with ASEAN explosive solar energy points IMS Research
Competitiveness: 1,000s of jobs in Euro Zone likely with ASEAN explosive solar energy points IMS Research
by thaiintelligentnewsYingluck making some major moves on Thai solar energy adoption |
- By Pooky, Thai Intel's economics journalist
When Thaksin became Thailand's prime minister, as they say, "If was the worse of times and it was the best of times."
It was the worse of times, because IMF
collapse of the Thai economy to wipe out bade debt, in the rationale
that the bottom will be a base of a new growth phase-stubbornly, did not
take place.
And
it was also the best of times, because Thaksin, a billionaire businessman, understood business needs. So Thaksin, did mainly two things, went hunting for investments and injected funds to the grassroots, meaning the majority of the Thai people.
In effect, Thaksin created new demand and supply, together systematically, in a very effective manner.
Well, Euro Zone is in a mess pretty much like Thailand, when Thaksin came to power in Thailand. Off course, Thailand and ASEAN can not serve the Euro Zone as a market place to spur new investments in the zone indefinately.
But there is hope, that all the QEs, will lead to just enough investment in the real sector, and the engine of growth in regions such as ASEAN, will give the global economic leaders, time to sort out all the mess and implement some sound policies like Thaksin's policies.
Press release, November
IMS research found that although the region accounted for less than 1% of global installations in 2011, its share is forecast to increase by more than four times by 2016, In addition, annual installations are forecast to grow by 50% a year on average for the next five years and expected to exceed 1GW by 2015.
Jackie Chang, DIGITIMES [Friday 2 November 2012]Total cumulative solar installations in Southeast Asia are forecast to reach almost 5GW by 2016, according to IMS Research. By conducting analysis on the solar markets in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Singapore and the Philippines, the market research institute believes that the region will grow at 50% per year on average over the next five years, providing an attractive market for ailing suppliers in Europe. Installations have previously been dominated by Thailand, however, other regions are also forecast to quickly account for a significant share of the market. In recent years, Thailand has accounted for the majority of installations in the region and will be the fifth-largest market in Asia in 2012 (after China, Japan, India and Australia). Rapid growth in Thailand has been driven by the attractive Adder incentive scheme which has resulted in several large ground-mount systems being completed. However, a new incentive scheme to promote smaller rooftop systems is expected in 2013. As a result, the market share of utility-scale systems in Thailand is forecast to fall by 25% by 2016.
The solar market in Southeast Asia is forecast to diversify significantly in the future. "Although the market is currently dominated by Thailand, a number of countries within the Southeast Asia region have huge potential for solar and offer significant opportunities to suppliers, and these will account for a growing share of the market in the future," commented Jessica Jin, PV market analyst at IMS Research. "Given its substantial and quickly growing need for electricity, the small amount of the population that currently have access to electricity, and its reliance on diesel generators on its thousands of islands, solar is a highly attractive solution for providing distributed electricity sources in Indonesia." IMS Research predicts that Indonesia will be the fastest growing market in the region installing close to 1GW of solar over the next four years, with off-grid systems set to account for a significant share of this.
IMS Research also found that although the region is home to some large manufacturing facilities for international solar cell and module manufacturers, these manufacturers do not hold a significant market share, and five of the largest solar module suppliers to the region were found to be China- or Japan-based manufacturers. In contrast, the majority of the largest system integrators were headquartered locally.

V Creative Agency - Articles: How Much Does it Takes to Be A Chinese VIP?
V Creative Agency - Articles: How Much Does it Takes to Be A Chinese VIP?: It comes as no surprise that to luxury brands, Chinese VIPs are those that spend the most. Reports on just how much vary. McKinsey reports that VIPs drop at least 150,000 renminbi a year on luxury goods. Accounts from real VIPs suggest that number is much higher.
Wall Street Journal reporter Laurie Burkitt recently interviewed a young woman in Beijing who said she spent about 20,000 renminbi on luxury products every one or two months. “She also said that in order to become a VIP in some instances you need to spend at least that much. And at Hermes, you need to spend a whole lot more, buying about five or six limited edition bags per year,” Burkitt reported.
And the fact that the VIPs keep spending mean that brands have worthwhile incentives. Few retailers publicly offer details about everything a VIP receives in an attempt to preserve the uniqueness of the experience for those paying for it. “They want this to be an exclusive, extravagant experience for a VIP to make them feel really special and provide some sort of impression on them so they will go home and tweet about it on Weibo, which is very similar to Twitter, and tell all their friends, so that other VIPs will go in and do just the same – buy a lot of products and go back and tell their friends,” said Burkitt.

Film-friendly Thailand a hub of foreign production shoots in Asia | Read More
BANGKOK, Thailand - Often times Thailand has been accused of over using the term "hub" in describing positioning of its burgeoning industrial growth. But now, thanks to pro-active marketing on the part of the Department of Tourism, Thailand Film Office (Thailand's Film Commission) the Kingdom is in the midst of a foreign production boom.
With the lure of high-production values, skilled crew, beautiful locations, and low costs, Bangkok is blossoming into an outsourcing hub for foreign filmmakers - it has become the center of foreign movie production in Southeast Asia.
For 2011, 606 foreign productions where produced from 46 different countries generating US$39.2 million. Countries as diverse as Chile (a documentary), Germany (8 documentaries, 4 ads, and 6 TV programs), and Nepal (1 feature), all used locations in various parts of the country.

Car and Driver reports that both Spyker and Youngman will also create a company called Spyker Phoenix to produce a line of luxury cars using the Phoenix technology and platform – a project Saab had been working on before the brand collapsed last year. These cars are expected to be manufactured in China.
While Spyker enters into these plans with Youngman, it is also suing Saab GM for $3 billion in relation to the brand’s demise. Spyker itself has little to bring to a new venture, and as Youngman has outsourced vehicle development to Lotus in the past, the experts are wondering just how this collaboration will work out.

How US retail travel and tourism industry can attract chinese tourists
What will be the impact of the growing influx of Chinese inbound tourists in the U.S.?
To make things simple, the big winner will be the U.S. retail industry, far ahead of the hospitality industry, the transportation industry, and the entertainment industry. According to recent China Elite Focus statistics, the average Chinese leisure tourist in the U.S. may spend around $2,500 in air transportation and lodging and more than $7,000 in shopping at retail stores on U.S. soil. And we are talking about an average Chinese traveller from the Chinese upper-middle class, not a high-net-worth individual, who will easily spend $100,000 in shopping for himself and his family and friends.

Kanyakrit Vongkiatkajorn Aug 6, 2012CityNews recently had the opportunity to interview Kaewmala, an outspoken Thai writer who first made headlines with her provocative book on Thai sexuality, Thai Sex Talk.
Since then, Kaewmala has gone on to write about societal and political issues in Thailand, broaching such topics as Thailand’s failing education system, pop-culture scandals, and constitutional language. She regularly contributes to news website AsianCorrespondent.com, as well as the English version of Prachathai. Self-described as “unapologetically liberal”, Kaewmala is perhaps one of the few Thai female critics writing cogently on Thai issues in English today – acting as a much-needed bridge for both Thais and English-speakers/readers to discuss Thailand’s many social hang-ups, both amusing and controversial.
This three-part interview covers such topics as the construction of Thai culture, the role of expats in Thailand, and, of course, Kaewmala herself. Don’t forget to check out Kaewmala’s blog as well for a taste of her writing.

1. Look for Amtrak's Promotional Deals
Amtrak is the U.S. government-owned passenger rail service. It offers those age 62 or older a 15 percent discount on most train trips (on those operated by Amtrak/VIA Rail Canada, passengers 60 and over receive a 10 percent discount). Although you can't combine discounts and deals, you should still visit the "Deals" tab on the Amtrak website, says spokesperson Marc Magliari. "That should be the first stop for anyone trying to save money," he advises. Scan "Latest Promotions" for offers that knock off more than 15 percent. There are typically promotions available that reduce regular fares by as much as 20 to 30 percent when you purchase tickets by a certain date.

The 'internationally uninterested'
By Richard Turen
It's an old witticism, but one worth repeating here:
What do you call someone who speaks three languages? Multilingual.
What do you call someone who speaks two languages? Bilingual.
What do you call someone who speaks one language?
An American.
What do you call someone who speaks two languages? Bilingual.
What do you call someone who speaks one language?
An American.
Perhaps I should start by trying to destroy an urban myth that I myself have helped perpetuate. Much of the world, it turns out, believes a well-circulated rumor that only 10% of American adults own a passport. I have previously written that, actually, 29% of all American adults have passports.

Virgin Atlantic's hot tub
So you're holding an airline ticket for Business or First Class and psyched to see what sort of luxuries await beyond the sliding doors of the exclusive airport lounges? Well, we have good and bad news. Bad news first: not all airlines think beyond offering the basics of seating and snacks. The good news: most do! Kids areas, workstations and even shower facilities are de rigueur in a lounge these days, and the more creative carriers have moved onto hidden hot tubs or perfect French pastries for an extra "oomph."
This is how you may end up breathing at the oxygen bar of the SkyTeam lounge at London-Heathrow or picking up a cue for a game of pool at New York-JFK. Now let's look at a whole bunch more of the interesting offerings, all of which we've personally visited.
